ABB gets orders from Powergrid

ABB Ltd has announced that the Company has been awarded orders worth around Rupees 330 crores (3300 MINR) to provide turnkey substation solutions and a range of power products to Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) as part of their efforts to strengthen the transmission grid across the country.

ABB has been entrusted with the design, supply, erection and commissioning of a new 400/220kV GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) at Chamera in Himachal Pradesh. This project includes 400kV and 220 kV bays, power transformers, shunt reactors and the latest IEC 61850 based substation automation system. This will serve as the power-pooling substation for the Buddhil and Chamera III hydro power plant. The cutting-edge GIS technology from ABB brings significant space-saving, higher reliability and safety benefits. The 400kV and 220 kV GIS for this project, to the tune of Rupees 70 cores (700 MINR) will be supplied from ABB in Switzerland.

ABB will also be supporting PGCIL in its efforts to strengthen the western grid with new 400/220 kV substations to be set up in Pune and Solapur as well as extensions to the 400kV substations in Parli, Aurangabad and Kolhapur. ABB's scope includes design and supply of the substation, 400/220 kV power transformers and instrument transformers, a range of circuit breakers as well as PLCC equipment. ABB will also provide control and protection systems, including the latest IEC 61850 compliant substation automation based on an open systems protocol. The projects are scheduled for completion in around 24 months and part of the orders were booked at the end of 2007.

ABB Q2 Results

ABB Ltd has announced the following Unaudited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2007:

The Company has posted a net profit of Rs 1156.875 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2007 as compared to Rs 821.432 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2006. Total Income has increased from Rs 10935.999 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2006 to Rs 13933.166 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2007.

ABB wins order from JSW

ABB Ltd has announced that the Company has received orders worth around Rupees 512 crores (5120 MINR) from JSW and their associated Companies, to provide turnkey power and automation solutions for their steel and power plant projects.

This includes Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) solutions for their 8x135 MW power generation facility in Rajasthan and a 300 MW power plant being set up in Bellary, Karnataka. Other systems and equipment include transformers, substations, electronic drives as well as a range of medium and low voltage switchgear and electricals. The projects are expected to be commissioned by 2009.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the JSW Group and have worked with them on several steel projects. We are now proud to partner then in their power projects", said Biplab Majumdar, Country Manager and Managing Director ABB India, commenting on the orders. "ABB's power and automation technologies will go a long way in enabling efficiency and productivity at JSW’s world-class facilities", he added.

JSW is among India's leading players in the metals sector and is part of the fast growing US$ 6 billion O.P. Jindal Group with interests in mining, carbon steel, power and oxygen. JSW is in the process of enhancing its steel capacity from 3.8 to 10 mpa (million tonnes per annum) by 2010, supported by a build up of its power generation capability.

ABB Ltd

ABB Ltd has announced that ABB India has won a Rupees 933 million (93.3 crore) order from KHD Humboldt Wedag GmbH, Germany, to provide a turnkey electrics and automation solution for a 5000 TPD (tonnes per day) capacity green-field cement plant at Katrana in Jordan. The plant is being set up by the Al Katrana Cement Company LLC, Jordan (AKCC), a group Company of Arabian Cement Co. Saudi Arabia. The project is expected to be completed by mid 2009.

The scope of the project encompasses design, engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the complete electrics and automation systems. The package will include low and high voltage motors, electronic drives, intelligent switchgear, HT & LT capacitors and distribution transformers. ABB will also provide control and automation for the Robot Lab at the plant, being established to enable sample analysis for quality improvement.
