TTML gets GSM approval

Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Ltd has informed that Department of Telecommunications (DoT) vide its Press Release dated October 19, 2007 had allowed telecom service providers to use alternate technology under their existing Unified Access Service Licences after obtaining DoT approval and on payment of the prescribed fee.

In response to the said Press Release, the Company, which operates in Mumbai and Maharashtra (including Goa) Telecom Circles and offers telecom services using CDMA technology had applied for GSM spectrum for the abovesaid Telecom Circles. The Company was issued 'In Principle Approval' by DoT to use GSM technology on payment of non-refundable fee of Rs 393 crores. The Company has paid the fee and has applied for GSM spectrum. Allocation of spectrum is subject to availability and existing policy / guidelines as amended from time to time.
